About a third of dentists do not meet hygiene standards in Cali

A recent report showed that in the UK, nearly one in three clinics do not meet basic national standards to protect patients from cross infection.

The study, sponsored by the government, which surveyed nearly 500 offices, found that 12 percent of dental offices were, in effect, using dirty instruments in the mouths of their patients, because these offices did not meet established standards of cleanliness. The failure to properly disinfected forceps, probes and mirrors threatened with weakened defenses against potentially fatal diseases such as HIV, hepatitis C and vCJD (variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease or mad cow disease).

Just over 70 percent of dental offices were visited by meeting the "essential quality requirements" to reduce the risks associated with the use of multiple-use instruments, and only one in five met the guidelines of "best practice." The results of the National Survey of Decontamination have raised serious doubts about the possibility of offices may be worse meet the essential requirements by April 2011, when they were under the authority of the Commission on Quality of Care (Care Quality Commission, CQC), the entity responsible for monitoring health.
